Co-hosted by RoboCup China Committee, Municipal Government of Suzhou and University of Science and Technology of China, RoboCup China Open 2006 was inaugurated on October 7th, 2006, at Suzhou, one of the most poetic and picturesque city in China.
RoboCup China Open 2006 aims at the popularization of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence within the youth of China, encouragement and promotion of research and exploration in Mechanics, Electronic Engineering, Information Science and Automation, and setting up a fundamental platform for future academic masters in those realms.
During October 7th to October 9th, 255 teams, around 1,000 members totally, participated in 7 different RoboCup leagues: Simulation 2D, Simulation 3D, Small Size, Middle Size, 4-legged, Humanoid, Rescue and Junior. Within those teams, 430 teams are domestic while the rest 70 oversea teams come from 9 countries or areas which are USA, Germany, England, Singapore, Iran, Brazil, Mexico, Nigeria and Hong Kong respectively.
The honorable president of RoboCup Federation, Prof. Minoru ASADA, as well as other trustees also came to the host city of RoboCup China Open 2006.
The paramount Chinese TV Station, CCTV participated in the whole procedure of competition and live report was broadcasted around the whole nation in CCTV News and CCTV-5 (Sports) Channel.
The RoboCup Competition in China was held for every year under the authorization of RoboCup Committee since 1999. Started from 2006, RoboCup Competition in China has transferred to RoboCup China Open Competition, which is opened for competitors all around the world. Moreover, after Japan, USA, Germany, Iran and Australia, RoboCup China Open has become the sixth RoboCup series open world wide.
